SINGAPORE: BG Tampines Rovers' newly appointed Japanese coach, Katsuhito Kinoshi, has resigned "with immediate effect due to family reasons," the club announced Wednesday. Kinoshi's tenure lasted less than two weeks, having been appointed on April 3.

William Phang, the club's general manager and goalkeeper coach, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season. Phang, a long-time club member, expressed his readiness to lead the team through their current title race.

The club is currently second in the Singapore Premier League, one point behind leaders Lion City Sailors with a game in hand. Kinoshi oversaw two matches, resulting in one win and one defeat.

Kinoshi's brief period at the club was reportedly marred by a S$2,000 fine for breaching rules. BG Tampines Rovers was penalized by the Football Association of Singapore after Kinoshi, described as an "unauthorised individual," entered an official area before his official appointment. Additionally, the Ministry of Manpower is investigating Kinoshi for allegedly working without a valid permit.

Club chairman Shungo Sakamoto stated the club has full confidence in Phang and aims to maintain continuity amidst unexpected changes. Kinoshi's departure marks the fifth coaching change for BG Tampines Rovers this season.
