WINNIPEG -

Emile Chenevert, a family doctor from Quebec City, is balancing his medical career with a shot at Olympic glory. He's attending the Canadian men's flag football selection camp at Princess Auto Stadium this weekend, despite recovering from a foot sprain. The camp is one of two this year to pick the squad for the IFAF world championship in Germany. The top two teams in Dusseldorf earn berths to the 2028 Los Angeles Games, where flag football makes its Olympic debut.

Chenevert, a defensive back, joined the national team last year and helped win bronze at the IFAF Americas Continental Championship in Panama. National team head coach Paul LaPolice praised Chenevert's skills and leadership, calling him "one of our best players."

Also at camp is receiver Daniel Petermann, a CFL veteran aiming to make the national team. LaPolice expects a competitive squad, noting Canada defeated the U.S. in a game last year, the Americans' first loss in eight years. If the U.S. reaches the final in Germany, the top three teams will secure Olympic spots.
