PARIS - Defending champion Coco Gauff was ousted from the French Open by Russian Anastasia Potapova in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-4. On the same day, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka dispatched Daria Kasatkina 6-0, 7-5 to reach the fourth round and notch her 100th career win as the top-ranked woman.
Gauff, the 22-year-old American, struggled with her serve and key points, failing to capitalize on early leads. Potapova, who battled cramps, called the win "unbelievable" and advances to face Anna Kalinskaya.
Sabalenka’s milestone win places her alongside legends Steffi Graf, Serena Williams, and Iga Swiatek. She credited her resilience: "I'm just happy in the tough moments I stayed tough." With Gauff out, Swiatek and Sabalenka remain top contenders for the title.
In other action, Matteo Berrettini won a five-hour marathon over Francisco Comesana. Local favorite Diane Parry upset sixth seed Amanda Anisimova, and Madison Keys outlasted Victoria Mboko.
