Brazilian teen sensation Joao Fonseca continues his stunning French Open run, defeating two-time runner-up Casper Ruud 7-5, 7-6(8), 5-7, 6-2 to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final.

The 19-year-old Fonseca, who saved two match points to upset Novak Djokovic in the third round, showcased remarkable composure on Court Philippe Chatrier. He broke Ruud in the 12th game to take the first set, then edged a dramatic second-set tiebreak after Ruud squandered three set points.

Though Ruud rallied to take the third set, Fonseca elevated his game in the fourth, securing a double break and closing out the victory with the crowd at soccer-match intensity. Three-time Roland Garros champion Gustavo Kuerten watched from the stands, beaming.

Fonseca, ranked 30th, will next face Czech Jakub Mensik.
