Red Bull-backed driver Max Verstappen and his Mercedes team qualified fourth for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the four-time Formula One champion's debut in the legendary endurance race.
Co-driver Dani Juncadella set a time of 8 minutes 12.005 seconds on the 25-kilometer German circuit, known as "The Green Hell." Pole position went to the #84 Red Bull Team ABT Lamborghini with a 8:11.123 lap by German Luca Engstler.
"I felt good in the car...our goal was to get into the Top Qualifying 3 session...There are a lot of fast cars but we managed to do it," Verstappen said.
Verstappen is sharing the GT3 car with Juncadella, Jules Gounon, and Lucas Auer. The race has drawn record interest, with weekend tickets sold out for the first time. The event starts Saturday at 3:00 PM local time with 161 entries across 23 classes.
