The National Women's Soccer League has awarded an expansion franchise to Columbus, Ohio, increasing the league to 18 clubs. The team is slated to join the competition in 2028.
The ownership group is led by Haslam Sports Group, which also owns the NFL's Cleveland Browns and operates Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew. NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman stated that Columbus is a natural next step for the league's growth, citing the city's soccer tradition and strong community support.
The new Columbus club will play at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field and will debut alongside a new Atlanta team in 2028. Fan input will be sought for the team's name, colors, and crest. The ownership group also includes Nationwide and Drs. Christine and Pete Edwards.
