The Professional Tennis Players Association says the dispute over French Open prize money underscores the need for a complete overhaul of tennis governance. Despite a 9.5% increase for 2026, the tournament’s €61.7 million purse still trails the Australian Open, U.S. Open, and Wimbledon.
Aryna Sabalenka and other top players have expressed “deep disappointment” and warned a boycott is possible if the gap isn’t closed. They are demanding a 22% revenue share, matching what the ATP and WTA offer at combined 1000-level events.
The PTPA, co-founded in 2020 by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil, supports the players, stating “deep structural changes are desperately needed.” The group has also filed a class-action lawsuit against the Grand Slams, ATP, and WTA, citing unfair prize money distribution and lack of player representation.
The French Open begins May 24.
