Dallas Mavericks rookie Ryan Nembhard is rapidly developing under the tutelage of NBA legend and head coach Jason Kidd. Nembhard, who signed a two-way deal in July, has become a consistent presence in the Mavericks' rotation, appearing in 43 games this season.
Nembhard expressed his admiration for Kidd's basketball IQ and understanding of the game. "He's taught me a lot, and it's been nice to learn from him and take a lot in," Nembhard stated. Kidd himself praised Nembhard's readiness for NBA competition, noting his strong work ethic.
Nembhard's journey includes two seasons of U.S. collegiate ball at Creighton and two years at Gonzaga, where he led NCAA men's basketball in assists in the 2024-25 season. Despite his collegiate success, Nembhard acknowledges the ongoing learning process in the NBA, with significant support from veteran teammates.
Nembhard is currently averaging 6.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game. His development is also noted by Toronto Raptors star RJ Barrett, who has a long-standing connection with Nembhard, viewing him as a younger brother.
