Team USA will not have Tiger Woods as captain at the next Ryder Cup. Woods formally turned down the role Wednesday as he steps away from golf activities after entering a not guilty plea to suspicion of driving under the influence. His SUV clipped a trailer and flipped last week near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida.

The PGA of America issued a statement supporting Woods's decision to focus on his health. His attorney filed a motion Wednesday, approved by a judge, requesting permission for Woods to travel outside the country for "comprehensive inpatient treatment." The attorney cited the need for privacy and a level of care unavailable in the U.S.

Woods also declined the captaincy offer last time, leading to Keegan Bradley's selection for the 2025 matches, which Europe won. Luke Donald has agreed to captain Europe for a third consecutive time.
