ATLANTA - Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha delivered a stunning, emotional performance Monday, holding European champions Spain to a 0-0 draw in their World Cup opener.

The 40-year-old veteran, who plays in Portugal's second tier, broke down in tears after a display that captivated the crowd and launched his Instagram following from under 50,000 to over two million in a matter of hours.

Spain dominated possession but could not solve Vozinha. He fully stretched to tip a Mikel Oyarzabal header over the bar just before halftime and later clawed an Aymeric Laporte header around the post. The minnows grew in belief as the match remained scoreless.

Spain introduced young winger Lamine Yamal to inject pace into a sterile attack, but even a late effort from substitute Mikel Merino posed no threat to the Cape Verde wall.

Cape Verde, one of the smallest nations to ever qualify, celebrated the draw as a monumental triumph. The loudest roar was reserved for their goalkeeper.
