Serena Williams has withdrawn from Saturday's scheduled Wimbledon doubles appearance with older sister Venus because of a knee injury.

It would have been the first Grand Slam reunion for the six-time All England Club doubles champions since 2022. The 44-year-old sustained the injury during her singles defeat to Australia's Maya Joint on Tuesday.

"I'm heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles," Serena Williams stated. "Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside Venus once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn't ready to compete."
