The UK Ministry of Defence is investigating reports that a Russian warship fired warning shots dangerously close to a UK-registered yacht.

The incident occurred Tuesday around 11:40 BST, roughly 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight. The Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich reportedly discharged the shots from approximately 500 yards away. No injuries or vessel damage have been reported.

The Admiral Grigorovich was already under surveillance, having been shadowed by HMS Mersey. The Royal Navy previously described the tracking as a routine operation after the frigate was spotted off the coast of Brest.
