U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has stated that the United States may withdraw from the International Energy Agency (IEA) if the organization continues to pursue a net-zero emissions agenda by 2050. Wright expressed dissatisfaction with the IEA's current policy scenarios, asserting that a net-zero goal is unrealistic.

Wright criticized the substantial $10 trillion investment in renewable energy sources like wind and solar, which he claims only contributed 2.6% to global energy needs. He suggested the IEA should revert to its original mission of focusing on energy security and critical minerals, rather than climate advocacy.

This stance from the U.S. comes amid broader shifts in American energy policy. However, European officials, including British Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, have voiced support for the IEA's work, emphasizing its reliance on data and science.
