Anthony Joshua, former world heavyweight champion, is set to return to the ring on July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His opponent will be Kristian Prenga, a U.S.-based Albanian fighter with a professional record of 20 wins and one loss. Prenga, a former kickboxer, turned professional in 2016.
The fight, officially titled "The Comeback," was announced by Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority chairman Turki Alalshikh. Joshua, who holds a record of 28 wins and four losses, last fought in December.
"It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring," Joshua stated. "I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25th in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The landlord will collect his rent."
This bout could be a tune-up for a potential future match against fellow former world champion Tyson Fury later in the year. Promoter Eddie Hearn indicated July and November as potential dates for a Joshua-Fury showdown.
