In a dramatic life-or-death scene on the Dames Point Bridge in Jacksonville, Florida, police officer Antonio Richardson-also a pastor-talked a man out of jumping. Body camera footage from April 12 shows Richardson speaking calmly with the individual for about 40 minutes, urging him to reconsider: "You can get through this." When the man finally stepped away from the edge and hugged the officer, Richardson later said, "God spared his life."
Richardson, who has over 30 years in ministry, credited prayer and a personal connection for the successful rescue. Afterward, he sat in his patrol car and wept. The incident has been praised by faith leaders as a powerful example of loving one's neighbor and taking action in moments of crisis.
