The FDA has approved Foundayo (orforglipron), a once-daily oral GLP-1 medication for chronic weight management. Developed by Eli Lilly, it’s designed for adults who are overweight or obese with related conditions.
In clinical trials, patients on the highest dose lost an average of 27.3 pounds, or 12.4% of body weight. Foundayo can be taken anytime, regardless of meals.
It joins Zepbound as Lilly's second obesity treatment and is also under study for type 2 diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea. Experts highlight its potential to expand access due to ease of use.
Side effects include nausea, vomiting, and digestive issues. Thyroid tumors are a risk; the drug is not recommended for children. Shipping begins April 6.
