ChargePoint has launched its Express Solo DC fast charger, a significant advancement aimed at accelerating electric vehicle adoption. This compact, DC-powered unit can deliver up to 600 kW, drastically reducing charging times for compatible EVs.
With EV battery technology rapidly improving, the bottleneck has shifted to charging infrastructure. The Express Solo's 600 kW capacity surpasses current US standards, where most Tesla Superchargers offer up to 250 kW and Electrify America up to 350 kW. Even new IONNA stations top out at 400 kW per plug.
The Express Solo is designed for versatile installation in locations like urban gas stations or convenience stores. It can charge two vehicles simultaneously, distributing its 600 kW power or dedicating it to a single plug. The charger features both CCS1 and NACS sockets for broad compatibility. It utilizes direct DC input, potentially from on-site battery storage, eliminating the need for expensive inverters. ChargePoint also notes the unit is modular and can be expanded to support more charging plugs in the future.
